Rep. Rashida Tlaib creates petition to stop Congress from expanding domestic terrorism laws, blames 'white people' for inflicting 'terror'

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) issued a petition to stop Congress from expanding national security powers in wake of the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.

Tlaib who is a member of the far-left 'Squad' in the House of Representatives, believes that the expansion of national security powers impedes on the rights of United States citizens and instead of expanding its powers, Congress needs to use existing tools to hold white nationalists and insurrectionists accountable.

"In the wake of the attack, some members of Congress are pushing to expand our domestic terrorism laws. But such measures will further erode our human and civil rights," said Tlaib on the petition's website.

"Every time our country has increased its national security powers, they’ve been used to disproportionately target, surveil, and criminalize already-over-policed communities of color and religious minorities—the same marginalized groups targeted by white nationalists."

Tlaib’s petition perpetuates claims which insinuate the need to focus solely on white nationalists, while ignoring the threat posed by activists from BLM and Antifa.

"As long as white people have been in this country, violent white mobs have inflicted terror as part of maintaining the unjust status quo. And they’ve gotten away with it."

"Our national government already has the tools (including over 50 federal statutes), resources, and authority needed to investigate and hold accountable the people who participated in January 6th’s insurrection. It’s just a matter of political will."

In the petition, Tlaib strongly emphasized the urgent need to hold individuals accountable for the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, a stark contrast from her actions throughout her time serving in the House of Representatives.

Tlaib attempted to hold former President Donal Trump accountable for "inciting a riot"-where he has now been acquitted, meanwhile the Congresswoman never once condemned the violent riots perpetuated by Antifa and Black Lives Matter activists which her rhetoric supported.

The congresswoman even marched alongside BLM, fighting for their right to continue their violent protests where activists assaulted police officers and committed criminal acts of arson, looting, and property damage during the protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Throughout Tlaib’s time in Congress, she has dedicated a vast amount of time to inciting violence towards the Jewish state of Israel, where she has often been at the forefront of anti-Semitic remarks that has received national attention.

In shocking statements, Tlaib described the "calming feeling" she experienced when thinking about the Holocaust, saying "there's always a calming feeling, I tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians... my ancestors, who lost their land and some lost their lives…  All of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post the Holocaust, post the tragedy and horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time."

The petition is sponsored by Democratic House Members including fellow 'Squad' members, Reps Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley. Other members of Congress sponsoring this petition include progressive lawmakers; Pramila Jayapal, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman.

Many of these congressional members took part in a rally to oppose the expansion of national security powers in late-January.

The petition is targeting 102,000 signatures and currently has over 90,000 signatures.
