He argued that the policies implemented during the pandemic were a boon to the wealthy while turning the lives of the poor and middle class upside down.
"The lockdowns were absolutely catastrophic," Kennedy began. "Worst of all is what it did to the economy ... We shifted $4 trillion in wealth from the American middle class to this new aristocracy of billionaires."
Kennedy pointed out that as a result, 500 new billionaires were created, and current members of the elite got even richer.
"The Oxfam report," he said, "shows that the billionaires that existed at the beginning of the pandemic, the people like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeffrey Bezos, Bloomberg, etc, increased their wealth by 30 percent during the pandemic, from the lockdowns ... Amazon got to shut down all of its competitors!”
"We have to rebuild the American middle class," Kennedy continued. "The strength of a nation comes from a strong economy, and a vibrant middle class," he continued, "and we have wiped out the middle class in this country systematically."
"We've turned this country into this corporate kleptocracy where the wealth is being stripped from middle class and poor in this country," he lamented, "and it's all fixed."
Kennedy attempted to place blame at the feet of former president Donald Trump, saying he would "hold him accountable for the worst thing that he did, which was the lockdowns.
What Kennedy failed to acknowledge, however, was that the former president made it very clear from the beginning that he was not keen on keeping the population cooped up.
"It's important for all Americans to recognize that a permanent lockdown is not a viable path forward producing the result that you want," Trump said shortly after the pandemic was declared in 2020.
