As the fight against sexualized drag shows and gender transition involving children continues, the Texas legislature has proposed several new bills in an effort to fight back against child gender transition surgery, biological men competing in women’s sports, and "gender identity" education being taught in schools throughout Texas.
With the constant outpouring of news that makes it seem like the trans agenda is winning, here are some of the top ways the Texas legislature is pushing back against the trans agenda targeted toward women and children.
This past week, the Texas Capitol building was protested by a large gathering of trans youth pushing back against Senate Bill 14 (SB14) and companion bill HB1686. SB14 and HB1686 aim to prohibit puberty blockers, hormones, and gender transition surgery for Texas children under the age of 18. SB14 would also halt public funding of the hospitals that provide these surgeries and medications.
Per the Texas Tribune, "Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, amended the bill to allow children who are receiving puberty blockers and hormone therapies by early June to continue such treatments if the bill is signed into law and takes effect."
Biological men competing in women’s sports has also become a rising issue, as female athletes point out the physical and biological advantages transgender women have over them.
Senate Bill 15 (SB15) is aimed toward stopping biological men from competing in women’s collegiate sports teams. Per SB15, the bill requires "students who compete in intercollegiate athletic competitions to compete based on biological sex."
The NCAA board has already come out in support of allowing transwomen to compete in women’s sporting events, despite pushback from female athletes, and have stated that they would not hold their championship events in locations that don’t allow trans women to compete.
Senate Bill 8 is pushing back against the indoctrination of Texas youth in public schools and is proposing a complete ban on gender identity and sexual orientation education for all grades. This bill also requires schools to notify parents of changes to their child’s mental, physical, and emotional health, changes that have been revealed to be kept secret from parents in schools across the country.
Drag queen story hour has also been a nationwide controversy, and SB 1601 has been proposed to halt public funding to municipal libraries that hold these types of events for children. The bill aims to prohibit "drag story hours" in which libraries put on "an event at which a man presenting as a woman or a woman presenting as a man reads a book or a story to a minor for entertainment."
Children in attendance at sexually charged drag shows have also become a huge issue and SB12 has been proposed with a whopping $10,000 fine for any business that allows children to attend "sexually oriented shows," with the bill saying that "a commercial enterprise may not allow a sexually oriented performance to be presented on the premises in the presence of an individual younger than 18 years of age". If the bill goes into law, business owners could face up to $10,000 in fines and performers could face being charged with a Class A Misdemeanor.
