Democrats only care about discrimination against Asians when doing so furthers their own purposes. On Thursday, they opposed an amendment that would prohibit federal funds from going to universities that discriminate against Asians in admissions and recruitment.

Many Asian American communities that are made up of primarily hard working immigrant families have opposed measures that deprive their children of the top placements they've earned. But Democrats are in favor of them. In the leftist push for "equity," they are actively discriminating against Asian American children.

That was made evident when the Democrats in the Senate all voted against the plan brought by Senate Republicans to amend the new COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to include the provision to ensure that Asian Americans are not discriminated against.

All the Democrats basically said, in voting against this amendment, that it's okay with them to discriminate against one minority in order to lift up another. The amendment was brought by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and John Kennedy (R-LA). After it was voted down, the senators issued a joint statement that decried the Democrats' refusal as "an unbelievably cynical move."

Yale University is just one of many universities that routinely discriminates against Asian Americans in recruitment and admissions. This practice was so pronounced that the Trump administration's Department of Education brought a suit against the university, though the Biden administration quietly dropped the suit after ascending to the Oval Office.

The City of New York has dismantled the admissions requirements to its high-academic achievement programs, instead making them open to all comers via a lottery system. The reason for this is that there were simply too many Asian American students taking the spots, and there weren't enough other minority students making the grade.

The Virginia Department of Education is moving to follow suit in pulling accelerated math programs and diplomas to keep higher achieving students from taking the top spots in the program. The solution was to pull the academic standards.

The progressive spinners of narrative are uneasy with the reality that Asian American students are simply performing at higher rates of academic excellence than their peers in other minority groups. They think that it doesn't look good to have so many Asian Americans earning top awards and placements, so they seek to undermine those students in order to push others forward, whether they have the prerequisites or not.

What do the Democrats care about? Appearances. The bill that was passed, without the GOP sponsored amendment, which passed in a rare bipartisan vote of 94-1, is designed to give law enforcement a better understanding as to how to identify anti-Asian racism, and to appoint a DOJ official to expedite reports as to the committing of these crimes.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) brought the bill. A GOP amendment to change the wording from being about "COVID-19 hate crimes" to simply "hate crimes" with a specific mention of Asian Americans did pass.

Democrats are more interested in making sure law enforcement can identify racism against Asian Americans, but they are perfectly fine with anti-Asian racisms when it comes to universities and colleges.
