The Talk, a talk show hosted by Sharon Osborne, wife of rock legend and reality tv star Ozzy Osborne, has been pulled from the air because Osborne said that Piers Morgan's critique of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, was not founded in racism. CBS, who broadcasts the show, is currently investigating Osborne for racism.
Donald Trump, Jr. who knows a little about being in the public eye for his family ties, noted that: "This is getting insane! Now other shows are being pulled off the air because someone who actually knows someone else doesn’t believe they’re racist simply because someone else accused them of it with no basis simply because he didn’t believe someone else. Got it?!? @piersmorgan"
And he's not wrong.
British talk show host and tv personality Piers Morgan lost his job after criticizing the Duchess for claiming she was oppressed despite being an actual Duchess, a member of the royal family, married to a prince, and a Hollywood celeb laden with entertainment industry contracts, who lives in a mansion in Los Angeles.
Here's how it went down. Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex gave an interview to legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Morgan offered a critique of the couple, and then walked off the set of Good Morning Britain after co-host Alex Beresford defended Harry and Meghan against Morgan's remarks following their interview with Oprah.
Morgan had said: "I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen...is enormous and frankly contemptible." He refused to apologize for stating his opinion, and when that became an issue, he was forced out of his position with ITV.
A big part of what made it an issue was the oppressed Duchess of Sussex herself, who filed a complaint against Morgan. Her stated claim was not for her own well-being in the face of that big bully Piers Morgan, but for all the little people who are facing depression and mental issues. She seems to believe that his statement that he doesn't believe the Duchess means that he doesn't believe anyone who is suffering from mental illness.
After all this, Osborne defended Morgan to her co-host Sheryl Underwood, who said that Osborne "gave validation" to Morgan's "racist" views, which were that the Duchess, married to the man who is sixth in line to the British throne, is oppressed.
CBS then pulled the show off the air. Osborne apologized for defending Morgan, but it was too late, and there'll now be an internal investigation into the matter. Osborne said she "panicked, felt blindsided [and] got defensive" when she was accused of racism for defending a fellow-talk show host.
Morgan asked for an apology himself for what he's called "their disgraceful slurs."
To recap, a Duchess went on international television to talk about how hard it is to be a duchess. A British talk show host said she was full of it. He got fired for that. A talk show host who defended him is being investigated. Yet the Duchess is still the Duchess, and therefore deserves all of our pity.
