The Federal Liberal riding association in Carleton are accusing Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre of being a white supremacist. In a tweet posted on Thursday, the Liberals allege Poilievre is wearing a white supremacy symbol on his sweater.
For context, the clenched fist is not a white supremacist symbol, but this did not stop the Liberals from allegedly defaming the Carleton MP for merely wearing a pro energy sweater.
As a reference, the Liberals used the Anti-Defamation League example of a white power fist and it is evidently not even remotely resembling what Poilievre has on his sweater. Ironically, the fist seen on Poilievre's sweater actually resembles the Black Lives Matter logo, which has also been used by other revolutionary leftist groups. Even more ironic, the founder of the Oilsands Strong is Metis.
The tweet immediately backfired once it was posted, leading to a considerable amount of opposition of criticism.
Many other users responded to the Liberals, pointing out the hypocrisy of calling the opposition a white supremacist, while Justin Trudeau has worn blackface an uncountable amount of times. Others are taking this more seriously and are calling for legal action against the Liberal Party.
It remains to be seen whether the LPC will remove the tweet.
