Trudeau moves from China’s 'useful Idiot' to something more dangerous

We’ve heard every "justification" from Liberal apologists for Justin Trudeau’s disturbingly weak and subservient attitude towards China.

"It’s about trade."
"Canada has historical ties with China."
"We’re a small country."
"Canada can’t speak up without allies."
"Being aggressive doesn’t help."
"If we’re too tough, China will hurt Canada even more."

Of course, those arguments are all trash, and I’ll take them apart one by one.

First, Canada’s yearly exports to China are about $20-25 billion per year. Consider that our government is running a budget deficit about twenty times larger than that. Even in an extreme case where all our trade with China ceased—which is not going to happen, the government could—at some cost—fill the gap with spending and increased trade with other partners.

Further, we have an example in Australia—a country heavily dependent on China—that has been far more courageous than we have even under serious economic pressure. If they can do it, we can easily do so as well.

And of course, China needs many of the things we sell to them, so it shouldn’t be assumed that we have no leverage.

Second, our historical ties with China are about as significant as the ties any other country has with the Communist State. The greatest connection is in the present, with the many people from China who have become Canadian citizens. Of course, many came here from China to live a freer existence, and are now being threatened by the Chinese Communist State as the government does nothing to defend them. If the government cares about the "Canada-China connection," they should stop the Chinese Communist Party from trying to coerce and intimidate Canadian citizens of Chinese descent

Third, the idea that we are "too small" to stand up to China is easily disproven. We are bigger than Australia and Taiwan, two countries that have been far tougher in standing up to China. Even more importantly, we have an ironclad security alliance with the world’s most powerful military in the United States, and with many other powerful nations. Canada is well-positioned to stand up for our values and our interests.

Fourth, some argue that Canada can’t push back against China because we can’t do so without allies. But of course, most of our allies are already doing so, and being much tougher. The aforementioned Australia, much of Europe, the United States, Taiwan, India, and more have been pushing back against the increasingly ruthless stance of the Chinese Communist Party. In fact, the real risk now isn’t in standing up to China on the world stage, it’s in refusing to do so.

Fifth, we constantly hear that if we are "too tough," China will punish Canada more. Yet, they took two of our Citizens despite Trudeau’s weak stance. They cut off some of our exports and kept those bans in place, even after the Trudeau government refused to retaliate. And no matter how much Trudeau tries to show deference and subservience, China continues to treat our nation badly.

Also, if we were to act nicer towards China because they are holding our Citizens hostage, that would only validate their tactics, and embolden China to use even more hostage diplomacy, putting more Canadians at risk.

The problem isn’t Canada being too tough, it’s Canada not being tough enough.

Why have I gone through all those points?

To show that the usual arguments used to justify Trudeau’s "useful idiot" status in regard to China are simply dead wrong.

There is something different going on here.

It’s the accumulation of everything we’ve seen with Trudeau, his allowing China to take over sensitive Canadian national security companies, his willingness to criticize India and the United States but go easy on China, his expressed admiration for China’s "basic dictatorship," and now his desire to have Chinese Communist troops on Canadian soil to learn winter warfare tactics – even going so far as to oppose the military who wanted to shut that down.

Trudeau is no longer just a "useful idiot."

With his approach to China, the damage it does to our national security, and the damage it does to our alliances with democratic nations, Trudeau’s attitude is becoming incredibly dangerous for our country.
