Tucker Carlson slammed Justin Trudeau for using the tragedy in Uvalde, Tex. as an excuse to push new gun laws in Canada.

The tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, Tex. wherein twenty-one innocent people lost their lives has been met with various responses from governments. In Canada, prime minister Justin Trudeau moved swiftly to introduce a "national freeze" on the buying, selling, transferring, or importing of handguns.

On Tuesday, Tucker Carlson slammed Trudeau for what he deemed to be "using the tragedy in the US to his own political advantage."

"Now, Uvalde is more than 2,000 miles from Ottawa," Carlson began, "but because of what Salvador Ramos was allowed to do in Texas, Canadians are no longer allowed to protect themselves."

He then explained the aforementioned "national freeze" on handguns proposed by Trudeau.

"Again, handguns were not the cause of the shooting in Uvalde," Carlson continued, "Uvalde's nowhere near Canada, and yet Justin Trudeau is using that tragedy to disarm anyone that disagrees with him."

Carlson explained that if passed, the law would "allow courts to confiscate guns from people even if they've not committed a crime."

"What's actually happening here," he continued, "is that people like Justin Trudeau ... know perfectly well how resented they are, and they spend an awful lot of time thinking about civil unrest."

"You probably don't. You live in a democracy, so you don't imagine that anyone needs to be disarmed for political reasons, but people like Justin Trudeau can feel the deep resentment aimed at them, and they are fully intent on disarming the population."

Carlson called out Trudeau over his hypocrisy, as he continues to use guns to protect himself and his family, while reducing the ability of fellow Canadians to do the same.
