WaPo political cartoon accusing DeSantis of killing trans kids appears to be inspired by dead Syrian boy from 2015

One of the latest attacks on Governor Ron DeSantis and his anti-grooming bill is in the form of a Washington Post political cartoon that compares the Florida governor to a wicked queen giving poison apples to children, and appears to draw for its inspiration the photo of a dead, Syrian refugee toddler whose body washed up on Turkey's shores in 2015.

The illustration, from Michael de Adder, shows Mickey Mouse and Snow White looking morose, seemingly imploring DeSantis, as he tells them he's "protecting Florida's children from you." DeSantis holds a basket full of apples, emblazoned with the logo "don't say gay," which is the propagandist moniker Democrats have given the Parental Rights in Education law.

The implication is that if teachers can't tell children under the age of 10 about sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity, those children will kill themselves because they won't have the language to describe their pre-pubescent sexual urges and expressions that they were born in the wrong body.

Critics of DeSantis and the Florida legislature for passing the bill claim that not telling children about sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in lower grades is a threat to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other gender identities and sexual orientations, from asexual and pansexual to non-binary and demi-gender identifiers.

The claim is that not offering lessons on these things in lower grades is bad for kids and also discriminates against teachers who subscribe to these classifications, since they feel that they will be inhibited from speaking about their personal lives to their grade school students.

The wildly and seemingly intentionally misunderstood bill was blasted by Disney executives, who claimed that they would work to repeal the law. Interestingly, many of Disney's non-executive employees are in favor of the law and thinks it's reasonable to protect kids from activist indoctrination.

Florida parents overwhelmingly support Parental Rights in Education law, which prevents activist teachers from grooming young students into adult sexual practices and gender identity. It states that teachers cannot raise issues of sexual orientation or gender identity in grades kindergarten through 3, and that in older grades, conversations must be age-appropriate.
