A Sunday School teacher in Washington state has been arrested on felony charges for possession of child pornography.

On November 7, Redmond Police arrested 70-year-old Douglas Meerdink for possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct on his computer.

According to court documents seen by MSN, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified by Yahoo! that a user had uploaded over 2,000 files containing minors in explicit conduct to their platform.

Detectives investigated and discovered Meerdink was the owner of the Yahoo! email address.

He was arrested on November 7 during a joint operation with the Redmond Police Department, Seattle Police Department, and the US Department of Homeland Security.

After detectives seized Meerdink’s cellphone they discovered additional images on the device under "Recent files."

According to King County Prosecutors, Meerdink told police that he had been arrested previously for soliciting sex with an underage sex worker in 1998.

Meerdink has been an active member at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church and taught Sunday School classes for 2nd and 3rd-grade children, and according to police was also a former middle school teacher.

Prosecutors requested a judge to set bail at $100,000 and that Meerdink have no contact with children.

Meerdink is charged with two counts of Possession of Depictions of a Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct in the First Degree and one count of Possession of Depictions of a Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct in the First Degree.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on November 17.
