While a trove of children's book provided a backdrop for Friday's speech, President Joe Biden told the audience at the Capitol Child Development Center in Hartford that "everybody knows I like kids better than people," a statement that coincides with the president's past eyebrowing-raising remarks toward minors.
Biden delivered remarks promoting his "Build Back Better" agenda Friday afternoon in Connecticut, arguing that investing in child care will keep costs down for working families. He pitched his massive spending bill as Congress debates the Biden administration's monstrous infrastructure and pandemic recovery package.
"When I talked to all your folks out on the playground, as I joked, everybody knows I like kids better than people. Fortunately they like me. That's why maybe I like them," Biden, who has earned the moniker "Creepy Uncle Joe," said at the podium.
When he arrived at the child care center's playground, Biden was welcomed by an assembly of children and a sign adorned with painted hand prints.
A hand-drawn poster spelling "Build Back Better" hung near the slide attached with glitter, smiley faces, and pipe cleaners. A child hugged Biden as he kneeled. Another wearing an American flag t-shirt pointed out parts of the playground.
Biden has a track record of alarming parents and fussing over children more than the average baby-kissing president. During a speech at Joint Base Langley-Eustice in Hampton, Virginia, in late May, the septuagenarian made an uncomfortable comment about a little girl's barrettes and how she "looked like a 19-year-old."
"I love those barrettes in your hair, man. I tell you what, look at her. She looks like she's 19-years-old sitting there like a little lady with her legs crossed," Biden said at the military base ahead of Memorial Day, referring to the elementary school age-child of Brittany Bean, the wife of a soldier deployed in Afghanistan at the time.
Biden has been accused of exhibiting "creepy" behavior around girls and being in inappropriate contact with young women. Previous videos and photos have captured the commander-in-chief sniffing hair and not respecting personal space.
As the Democratic presidential nominee, Biden suggested during a 2020 campaign stop in Miami, Florida, that he wanted to see a group of "beautiful young ladies" gathered to the side dancing when "they're four years older too."
"The good news for me is I'm here," Biden said at the town hall. "The bad news for you is I'm coming back. I'm coming back. And I want to see these beautiful young ladies. I want to see them dancing when they're four years older too."
When asked by Fox News for comment on the awkward early October incident, the Biden campaign provided a link to Article II of the Constitution and highlighted, "He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years."
