Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA called out biological male swim champion Lia Thomas, who has set new records across the board by competing against women. Thomas is a biological male who identifies as transgender and began gender transition in 2019. In 2021 and 2022, Thomas was a women's swimming champion.
"Lia Thomas gave an interview on ABC news about why people transition – to be one's authentic self," Kirk said, then played a cut of the Thomas interview.
The clip began with Thomas talking about the swimming races themselves, opining that male or female biology is not a deciding factor in these races:
"There's a lot of factors that go into a race, and how well you do, and the biggest change for me is that I am happy. Trans people don't transition for athletics; we transition to be happy and authentic and our true selves."
"Transitioning to get an advantage is not something that ever factors into our decisions," Thomas then iterated.
"You didn't transition to win more medals?" Thomas was asked.
"No," was the simple reply.
Kirk resumed his commentary, and told Thomas directly, "I don't wanna be cruel, but you sound like a dude."
"Man, I mean, at least try to make your voice sound different. Like, can you at least try the squeaky thing, like the higher octave?"
Kirk continued, "I'm not trying to be mean, but it's like you're not selling it well, at all. Worst salesman ever."
Kirk then offered his opinion on what's behind Thomas's words and what's really going on at the primordial level: "It's just narcissistic. It's all about you; of course it's about that."
"It's all about what you want, what you feel is right, regardless of who you disenfranchise, regardless of who you cut in line."
Thomas has Olympic ambitions to compete on the US women's swim team.
