Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza spoke with Ashli Babbitt’s mother on the life of Ashli, who passed during the January 6 siege of the US Capitol, and who she was as a person.

"We want to talk about Ashli Babbitt and how she was really like. To humanize her, as there’s been a demonization of [Ashli] by the Left and by the Biden DOJ," said D’Souza.

Her mother, Micki Witthoeft, said Ashli was outgoing even as a child and was also described as the adventurous type who spent her free time playing several sports growing up. "She was always an inspired, motivated child," she added, "and I’ve been told by people that I raised a strong woman and a strong patriot."

D’Souza referenced a picture of Ashli that Micki had sent him of a young Ashli playing soccer, calling her a well-adjusted, happy child. "She was," replied her mother.

Pivoting to Ashli’s career, D’Souza asked her mother why it was important for her to join the armed services. Her mother cited her "love of country" passed on from relatives who served in the US Armed Forces. Micki told Ashli "strengthened her conviction" to serve her country at the age of 16 that followed after the tragedy and devastation caused by 9/11.

"She did her patriotic duty and did her service to this country, and that's how Ashli led her life before and after the military."

D’Souza referenced another photo of Ashli, who was geared up in her military uniform and was engaged with local children abroad in "friendly banter." He had Micki speak to Ashli’s "strong protective impulse" as a soldier and American.

"People gravitate towards her, and that's just the kind of person she was," said Micki. "You couldn’t help but love her if you knew her. That’s why this [her death] was so heartbreaking because she served this country."

Micki took exception with the "insurrectionist" label given to her daughter for her role in the January 6 siege of the Capitol. She called it "slander," as she claimed no one could be charged with insurrection in the US.

D’Souza then asked Micki if it was accurate to say that Ashli’s motive to go to Washington was not to overthrow the government or organize an act of sedition but to express her concerns with the democratic accountability in the recent US election and that "democracy took place?"

Micki responded: "That was articulate and accurate."
