New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo said on MSNBC Tuesday evening that "incompetent government" was responsible for needless deaths through the COVID-19 pandemic, despite his state having a record high pandemic death rate.
"Incompetent government kills people. More people died than needed to die in COVID. That’s the truth,” Cuomo asserted.
New York only trails behind New Jersey for the highest rate of COVID-19 related deaths, according to the Heritage Foundation.
Cuomo said during the interview, "What I've found all through this crisis is, people value the truth. You know, give me the information. Don't give me spin, give me facts that don't change. Tell me the truth."
The truth is, Cuomo's struggles with effectively handling the coronavirus pandemic have been apparent. Cuomo has been widely criticized for his decision to send COVID-19 patients into nursing homes for treatment, due to the obvious risk his policy imposed on the residents of the facilities. New York's statewide vaccine rollout has also reportedly been not as successful as hoped and been widely criticized.
Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, a strong critic of Cuomo, could possibly challenge him if he seeks a fourth term in 2022, The New York Post reported.
"Unlike the poser currently in the governor’s mansion, she really IS ‘New York tough,’ whip smart, and we can trust her. She’s got my vote," Megyn Kelly told the Post.
Dean honed in on rebuking Cuomo after her in-laws died from COVID-19 while residing in New York nursing homes. "I challenge @NYGovCuomo to a town hall with the grieving families who’d like to ask a few questions. Let’s see who’s #newyorktough," Dean tweeted.
Dean hinted at a possible Governor run in a speech during a Q&A, Thursday. "I am still with Fox for now by contract agreement. But listen, you never say never in this life, right? And many people have gotten into government because something personal has happened to them," she stated.
