On the March 20 episode of the UPROXX podcast People's Party With Talib Kweli, comedian Jon Stewart told the host he was "woke" and that he tries to "live to the good unless the inconvenience of it is too great."
"We all participate in exploitative systems," Stewart said. "I, you know, I'm woke. My f*cking phone is not. But I use it because it has birds that are angry on it. I love them. But do you know what I'm saying?"
"I know what I am. I try and live to the good unless the inconvenience of it is too great," he added.
Most iPhones are manufactured in China under conditions that have been described as unsafe to exploitative. In November of 2022, protests erupted at a Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou over the working conditions and turned violent after law enforcement in the Communist-run country tried to quell the efforts.
Stewart has been a political activist for years and some have suggested, such as Politico, that he is gearing up for a run for president and have touted his adherence to progressive politics.
Stewart articulates many of his positions on his woke show on Apple TV, which lost 80 percent of viewers after the first episode.
In March 2022, Stewart said, "America has always prioritized white comfort over black survival" as part of a pro-reparations argument in an episode of his AppleTV show "The Problem with Jon Stewart."
In October 2022, Stewart passionately defended the medicalized gender transition of young children.
Steward was asked about running for office in an appearance on the podcast "Sway" with New York Times columnist Kara Swisher. Stewart said, "Oh, God. How do you not?" and told listeners it was an option he felt compelled to explore.Powered by StructureCMS™ Comments
