Comedian and podcaster Russell Brand on his podcast on Thursday mentioned that he believes that billionaire magnate Elon Musk is not buying Twitter with a view to profiting from it, but rather "for ideological reasons."

Brand first plays a clip of Musk himself, who said during an NBC interview:  "It was not correct to ban Donald Trump; I think that was a mistake."

"I think that was a morally bad decision, to be clear," iterated Musk. Brand then responded to the clip with his own "brand" of analysis:

"I think it's interesting, even, to hear the world 'moral' as part of the discourse."

"Usually, morality in conventional political and media conversation is a veil for financial interest," Brand continued.

"I don't think Elon Musk is purchasing Twitterfor financial reasons; I think he's purchasing it for ideological reasons. I believe Elon Musk is interested in free speech," Brand went on.

Brand, however, did want to make it clear that he doesn't consider himself a fan of Musk in general, saying:

"I know that if I were to analyze the business dealings of any billionaire, with rocket ships and sattelites and car companies, I'd probably come up against things that make me bridle, in terms of my views around unions and social equality and all kinds of things like that which I carry around with me."
