On Thursday, Donald Trump's team released a campaign ad featuring behind the scenes footage of the former president's arraignment in New York, where Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged him with thirty-four counts of falsifying business records in the first degree.
The ad takes aim at Bragg, Democrats, and the establishment at large, calling the case against Trump a "persecution disguised as a prosecution."
The video begins with commentary on Bragg's decision to prosecute Trump, which one reporter refers to as "idiotic" and "small-minded," pointing out that the whole fiasco will likely end up doing more to help the former president in the polls.
"Americans are very smart people, and they see what's going on," another reporter exclaims as the footage shifts to Trump's motorcade arriving at the courthouse in lower Manhattan. "This is a persecution disguised as a prosecution."
Layered over dramatic music and footage of supporters lining the streets, Trump proclaims, "The only crime that I've committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it, and now these radical left lunatics want to interfere with our elections by using law enforcement. We can't let that happen."
"With all of this being said, and with a very dark cloud over our beloved country," Trump concludes, "I have no doubt nevertheless, that we will make America great again."
The ad was widely celebrated by supporters of the former president.
"This is how it's done," Human Events' Jack Posobiec said.
"They underestimate how inspiring Trump can be," another stated.
Data shows that Trump has done well to capitalize on the situation. According to polling conducted by FOX News and the Boston Herald, twice as many Republicans said they would vote for him over DeSantis.
Many have pointed out that far from making Trump look bad, the arrest only strengthened support among his base.
"You know this is only going to make him more popular," comedian Chris Rock said. "It's like arresting Tupac. He's just gonna sell more records. Are you stupid?"
