After months of campaigning, countless promises, and a grueling election night, the presidential election is still too close to call.

Canadians always know that who Americans choose as their president will have repercussions for us, America's closest ally and largest trade partner.

Although campaign promises are rarely any indication of what politicians will enact once in office, Biden’s platform includes sweeping commitments to create a Green Energy Revolution, strengthen international alliances, end tariffs, and calls to “buy American.”

Biden has made the intended effects of these policies on the United States widely known, but their impact will be felt across the world.

In every presidential election, Canada's trade relationship, alliances, and a great deal of our economic well-being hang in the balance. In this election, the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, the size and strength of Canada’s Armed Forces, our commitments to NATO, Canada's steel and aluminum sector, and a large part of our immigration numbers are all areas which are bound to be affected.

For Canadians, a Biden presidency would have immediate implications.
